Project Statement

The goal of this project is to create Kitchen Helper, an app designed to empower individuals to embrace home cooking, regardless of their budget constraints or culinary expertise. Kitchen Helper is engineered to cater to a broad audience, from students to busy parents, by providing a platform to discover recipes, track food prices, and generate shopping lists efficiently. What sets Kitchen Helper apart is its innovative feature that allows users to input their available ingredients, offering customized recipe suggestions that optimize pantry contents. This ensures that users not only save money but also minimize food waste.

In developing Kitchen Helper, extensive research was conducted to understand the needs and preferences of potential users. Inspirations for the app’s layout came from popular platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest, whereas the design ethos was guided by the simplicity and elegance found in platforms like Tasty and Epicurious. The app’s interface, tailored for smartphone usage, utilizes an RGB color palette comprising #5c3c36 (a warm, earthy brown), #6ebf7c (a fresh, vibrant green), and grey, chosen for their natural and inviting qualities. These colors work in harmony to create a visually appealing environment.

For typography, Kitchen Helper employs Cochin for its elegant, readable quality, perfect for recipe text and instructions, paired with Raleway for its clean, modern feel in headings and navigation, ensuring optimal readability and a harmonious design aesthetic. Additionally, the app features intuitively designed icons that align with the overall design language, echoing the fonts’ characteristics for consistency and cohesion. The use of specific colors, fonts, and iconography in Kitchen Helper is deliberate, aimed at enhancing the user experience by making the app not only functional but also visually engaging and easy to navigate. This project’s meticulous approach to design and functionality aims to make cooking accessible and enjoyable for everyone, transforming the daunting task of meal preparation into a simple, rewarding experience.
